In honour of International Women's Day, we’re proud to spotlight five extraordinary female designers known for their unparalleled creativity and vision. Meet Teresa Sapey, Sarah Dehandschutter, Karen Gilbert, Maria Teresa Castillo and Grace Whiteside, whose innovative designs are shaping the landscape of illumination and interior design. 

Sarah Dehandschutter, hailing from llll is a visionary designer whose work marries functionality with aesthetics in breathtaking harmony. With a background in architecture, Sarah brings a unique perspective to her lighting designs, seamlessly blending form and function to create pieces that captivate the imagination.

For SkLO, creation is a collaborative dance between idea and material, where"We do not want our glass to look ‘perfect’." - Karen & Paul glassblowing's fluidity and unpredictability guide the design journey. Karen Gilbert, one-half of SkLO alongside Paul Pavlak, is driven by her background in metalsmithing and jewellery-making. Combined with his background in architecture, the duo has manifested SkLO's essence through their collections. "We do not want our glass to look ‘perfect’." - Karen & Paul

Maria Teresa Castillo, founder of Forma Rosa Studio, is a force to be reckoned with in“As of today, we are immersed into ceramics and the possibilities that this medium has for us to play with.” - Maria the world of lighting design. Drawing inspiration from her multicultural background and travels, Teresa infuses her creations with a sense of cultural richness and diversity. Her bold use of colour, texture, and geometric shapes brings a dynamic energy to her designs. With a commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, Maria Teresa's work not only illuminates spaces but also hearts and minds. “As of today, we are immersed into ceramics and the possibilities that this medium has for us to play with.” - Maria

Grace Whiteside, the creative mind behind Sticky Glass, brings a fresh pe"I hope our glassware can act as a point of connectivity between folks." - Grace Whitesiderspective to the art of glassblowing. With a background in fine arts and a passion for experimentation, Grace pushes the boundaries of traditional glasswork to create stunningly decor that defy convention. Her whimsical yet refined designs showcase the beauty and versatility of glass as a medium, captivating viewers with their intricate details and ethereal beauty.  "I hope our glassware can act as a point of connectivity between folks." - Grace Whiteside

Teresa Sapey, the visionary behind Blossom lamp, draws inspiration from her diverse experiences across the globe, infusing her designs with a rich tapestry of emotions and cultural influences. With her multidisciplinary team at Teresa Sapey + Partners, she meticulously crafts bespoke spaces that resonate with vitality and functionality, embodying the ethos of "designing with feelings." Blossom, a culmination of her passion for natural beauty and elegant aesthetics, symbolises openness and transience, casting enchanting lighting effects that elevate every environment it graces.
