Lights On: Royal Pek On Crafting The Perfect Home For Content Creation By Way Of Lighting

For the entrepreneur and digital creator Royal Pek, having optimal lighting was one of the most important aspects of his home renovation. After all, his home is the backdrop to many of the videos you’d see on his social platforms, and proper illumination ensures that he’ll always deliver consistently high-quality content.

To bring his vision to life, he turned to SGInteriorKJ and Sol Luminaire’s expertise, ensuring that his new family home would be a perfect blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal. From carefully selected luminaries to a Japandi-inspired design, every detail was crafted to enhance the space both for daily living and for creating visually engaging content.

In this edition of Lights On, Royal shares the journey behind his home renovation, the challenges he faced, and how Sol Luminaire’s lighting solutions transformed his space into a serene and visually striking environment.

How long did the renovation process take, and were there any enjoyable aspects?

The whole process took about 6 months because we started the renovation during the festive season across Christmas and Chinese New Year. There were many enjoyable moments throughout the process, especially when we started to see our dream home materialise from the initial planning stages.

What were some of the challenging parts of the renovation?

For me, it would be the paradox of choice; there were simply too many great options out there in the market! It was difficult having to lock down some of the choices, but I am glad that we had our interior designer Brennan from SGInteriorKJ help us out with the process. And also the fights that you have to “enjoy” with your partner in making some of the key decisions for the house.

How did you and your wife pick a unified theme for your home?

I would be very honest here and say that my wife deserves all the credit. While we have very distinct styles, I chose to go with “happy wife, happy life”. My wife has always had a more creative and aesthetically inclined eye, so I decided to let her design our dream home while I took on the supporting role of making it come true.

She definitely surpassed my expectations and I would even dare say our house turned out even nicer than the initial 3D render!

Tell us more about the inspiration behind your home.

We decided to go with Japandi for the theme of the house, using wood as the main supporting element. I believe the minimalistic design of the Japandi theme is the most important element of a “timeless” home, which means we are very unlikely to get bored of the house even after staying in it for a long time.

And we love wood! I think natural wood elevates the vibe of the house, and the colour is safe enough to be accepted by many. We host quite often so we want our guests to love the house too.

How did the lightin"I believe whether a house looks cosy, professional, or atas, it’s dependent on the lighting. "g for Sol Luminaire contribute to this vision? "I believe whether a house looks cosy, professional, or atas, it’s dependent on the lighting. "

I love Sol Luminaire. I believe whether a house looks cosy, professional, or atas, it’s dependent on the lighting. Light is the answer to bringing out the vibe that you are creating for your home.

We chose Halo as the primary luminaire for our house and because I shoot a lot of videos in my home, it’s very important for me to have good and cosy lighting throughout the entire space.

I would also like to highlight the minimal glare feature of Sol Luminaire’s products. Since I do most of my work at home, glare and eye strain can be a big problem, but that’s a non-issue with Unified Glare Rating. It really is a life changer even after spending long hours filming at home.

I have a Kepler V2 wall light beside my bed in the primary bedroom. It is one of my favorites; its dim-to-warm technology and seamless rotational functionality are what make bedside reading so enjoyable and I use it every night!

What are some key takeaways you learnt after engaging Sol Luminaire?

  • Light is the answer if you want to achieve your ideal home.
  • Sol Luminaire’s showroom is a must-visit. The museum-like showroom will change your understanding of lights and enlighten you.
  • Lighting for your house needs to be planned thoroughly and it’s more than simply being well-lit.

Which room do you spend the most time in?

It’s definitely my living room. We hacked a room to make our living room bigger and to also segment the living and working space in the house. The living room is where we have our meals and watch TV, so it's the space where my wife and I wind down after a long day of work.

Describe your home in 3 words.

Natural + Imperfections = Perfection

What’s an area or feature that usually gets the most attention when your friends and family are over?

We all love to hang around the dining area in the living room. The dining table is a natural piece of wood I got from WoodSlab and I love to share stories with my guests on how rustic interiors embrace the natural imperfections of wood.

The design of our home focuses on wood that has their natural colour which in turn feature a rich, deep patina that enhances the cosy, Japandi-inspired aesthetic. It’s a great story to share over a cup of coffee and tea at the dining table.

What inspires you to create? Any advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

I think original creation and works contributes to legacy. I’m inspired to create because I want to have my work leave a mark in people’s mind and memory. In an era where attention is the biggest currency, it’s truly satisfying and inspiring for me to get a piece of the pie through attention and eyeballs.

My only advice would be that it takes time. While many are chasing after the riches and results, I truly believe that creating a masterpiece—be it products, services, or art—takes time. Be patient and work on your craft and you will be far more likely to succeed.
