Meet Blobby: Sol Luminaire®’s Sculptural New Lamp That Puts Glasswork Front & Centre

When a lighting specialist known for refined precision meets a materials studio celebrated for architectural expression, the result is a design that feels both unexpected and perfectly intuitive. Blobby is the first collaboration between Sol Luminaire® and Ornate+, a sculptural lamp that merges technical expertise with tactile artistry.

The partnership was a no-brainer. Both brands obsess over materials and craftsmanship, just in different ways: Sol Luminaire® brings its lighting expertise, while Ornate+ infuses its love of texture, transparency, and rhythm. The result? A lamp that’s as functional as it is eye-catching.

Then there are the knurled metal caps, perched at each tube’s end like little exclamation points. They add just enough heft to ground Blobby’s organic shape, balancing playfulness with industrial polish.

Whether you’re illuminating a quiet corner or making a statement above a dining table, Blobby is built to adapt. It comes in three configurations: Wall, Pendant, and Suspended, each one offering a different take on the lamp’s sculptural presence.

Blobby isn’t the only exploration of fluted details by Sol Luminaire®. In fact, it debuted around the same time as the Fluted Globula within the Circuit.11 series that reimagined the classic globeshade with delicate ribbing. While the Globula played with texture on a compact metal frame, Blobby goes bigger and bolder, swapping metal for glass and transforming the motif into a full-blown sculptural statement.

It also joins the growing family of glass-centric designs within Sol Luminaire®, like the Pressed collection, where chunky glass blocks become minimalist wall lights. Both share a philosophy of using glass as more than a diffuser, but also as a storyteller that shapes light, shadow, and mood.

With Blobby, Sol Luminaire® and Ornate+ prove that great lighting doesn’t have to take itself too seriously. It’s a piece that dances between sculpture and utility, proving that light can be playful, poetic, and purposeful all at once. And Blobby may be the first of its kind, but it won’t be the last.
