Meet The Team: Building the Quintessential Sol Luminaire Experience

The Sol Luminaire experience begins the second you step through the doors at any of our gallery spacesSol Luminaire, Galerie 5, or the LAB2.1. A consultation that takes all aspects of your lifestyle and design preferences into account commences, providing you with all the necessary information and advice on lighting you may need.

Following this, quality checks and product deliveries are made, ensuring that your purchases arrive in a safe and timely manner. After expert installation has taken place, post-purchase support and servicing is just a call away, ready to aid you on any issues you may face with your luminaires.

In this edition of Meet The Team, we speak with Anis Syafiqah, our Customer Service Administrator, Wei Jie Ng, an Indoor Sales Executive at Galerie 5, and Uncle Kenny, our Delivery and Operations Personnel, who each play a major role in executing the quintessential Sol Luminaire experience that our clients appreciate and enjoy.

Anis:

What is your role at Sol Luminaire? Tell us more about what you do.

I’m in charge of customer service at Sol Luminaire, I mostly handle and liaise with clients and interior designers on servicing and warranty claims. I’m also in charge of the quality of all the items which are sent out from the warehouse, which is done alongside the operations team. My role is unique because it requires me to work with both our teams and clients— I work with our sales and operations departments, as well as clients and interior designers.

How is it like working on post-servicing and warranty matters?

It can be challenging. Some customers require more attention while others are pretty easygoing. A definite requireme"As a company, we provide our clients with the assurance of quality, and my role is to facilitate that."nt of this job would be for me to think on my feet a lot. As a company, we provide our clients with the assurance of quality, and my role is to facilitate that, through managing servicing appointments, replacements, and troubleshooting issues when required.  "As a company, we provide our clients with the assurance of quality, and my role is to facilitate that."

Prior to this job, I never really knew much about electrical components and the aspects that come with it. Only after working in this company did I understand the many components that make up lights; the many different types of lights there are, what can go wrong, how do I solve different issues, et cetera.

Anis shares that working at Sol Luminaire has taught her the importance of ambience creation.

How else has your experience at Sol Luminaire changed your perspective towards lighting or the lighting industry?

I've been a Customer Service Administrator at Sol Luminaire for three months now, and have never been in the lighting industry prior to this, so the lighting industry is relatively new to me. I’ve definitely learned a lot about lighting during my time here. I totally understand lighting a lot more, the use of light to not just illuminate, but to create an ambience —a feel— of a space; how lighting should make you feel. I've also dabbled in testing lights; the learning journey continues everyday for me.

What’s your favourite part about working at Sol Luminaire?

My favourite part about my job is the people I work with. They’re very easy to work with, and I’m very grateful for them.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I bake. I love baking, I generally bake a lot of cakes, cookies, and bread— sourdough, brioche… you name it, I've made it.

Wei Jie:

What is your role at Sol Luminaire? Tell us more about what you do.

My role here is to assist clients with lighting-related needs during renovations— like lighting design, tailoring lighting options to their lifestyle needs and design preferences.

Do you work with the in-house brand of AEON luminaires mostly?

Definitely, we get the downlights right before adding in lifestyle items from Galerie 5. Items from The Soucy Shop and Sticky Glass are pretty versatile and can be used for almost every household, while Makhno Studio and llll items tend to serve as the final finishing touches for a house, statement pieces to beautify a whole place. AEON luminaires are discreet enough to illuminate without stealing the limelight of other pendant luminaires.

Was there a difference between working at Sol Luminaire and at Galerie 5?

Definitely a big change, especially in the crowd. More architects and designers step into Galerie 5, whereas at Sol Luminaire, there will be more homeowners walking in because they already know the place well. A lot of creatives surround the vicinity of Galerie 5, and they’re pretty interested in our space because of how the showroom looks— something atypical compared to the commonplace lighting showrooms.

Is there a difference in how you approach your clients between the two locations?

Now that we have external international brand partners, we are able to complete the experience for homeowners, architects and d"Designers and architects in particular are seeking bespoke pieces for exclusivity. What’s your favourite part about working at Sol Luminaire?

Meeting people from different walks of life. From students to a more mature crowd— everyone has their own concept and story behind how they want to design their house. Every house is different, and my job is to help them achieve what they want. Instead of merely selling a product, I try to help them elevate the whole look of their house. That’s what I enjoy the most, seeing different designs and ideas every single day.

What makes the Galerie 5 experience unique for consumers?

We’re situated in a shophouse, so instead of just having one level of lights, we house decorative pieces, downlights, and lifestyle items in our three-storey shophouse. It definitely caters towards a more all-rounded user-centric experience.

Has working at Sol Luminaire changed your perspective towards lighting or the lighting industry?

Definitely, in the past, I would have just slapped on a big hamburger light and called it a day, because lights to me were something of functionality. But now I see how it elevates and complements a space, like what we have in our showroom— a wabi-sabi earth-toned concept, which is very in-trend, makes me feel calm at work. We don’t see showrooms like this in Singapore, so we’re trying to educate the public that what they experience here can be replicated at home.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to look at online magazines. I used to be in the fashion industry, so I like to look at runways and all that kind of stuff. I also gather inspiration for different lighting designs and projects via interior styling magazines.

Uncle Kenny:

What is your role at Sol Luminaire? Tell us more about what you do.

I’ve been a Delivery and Operations Personnel with Sol Luminaire for about 3 months now. Most of the time, I deliver goods from our warehouse to clients’ homes— flats, condos, and landed properties. Before making my deliveries, I will make sure that the items are in perfect condition and have been tested in-house. After arriving at our clients’ homes, I will once again personally check that all items are in perfect condition, and communicate this to the clients before leaving. I make about 7-8 deliveries in one day, which keeps me quite busy.

What’s your favourite part about working at Sol Luminaire?
The people; the team and company I work with.

llll's exhibit on level 2 of Galerie 5 creates an enchanting display.

Do you work in a team?

Yes, I communicate with and work with other teams to ensure smooth deliveries; I will check the stock of the items every morning before going about my deliveries.

Has working at Sol Luminaire changed your perspective towards lighting or the lighting industry?

Yes, I realise now that the quality of our products is "Our clients and customers enjoy the effect that our lights provide, meaning that they help to create a mood or feeling, and are not just for function."important. Besides that, our clients and customers enjoy the effect that our lights provide, meaning that they help to create a mood or feeling, and are not just for function.
