Sol Meets: ChengYi Interior’s Co-founder Jeanne Law Talks Creating Sincere Spaces

Home renovations are usually a one-and-done affair for most homeowners. But ChengYi Interior has found itself in a unique spot where its former clients are seeking out their expertise for their second and subsequent interior transformations.

Jeanne Law, co-founder of ChengYi Interior, shares that the firm’s success is due to a few simple but effective principles, with sincerity and transparency being the key for the past 6 years. We recently had the chance to pick her brain about ChengYi Interior’s philosophies, what homeowners should prepare before starting to renovate, her favourite Sol Luminaire light, and the future of interior design in Singapore.

With nearly 6 years of establishment, our passion for interior design has been flourishing for over 8 years. We take immense pride in our ability to transform spaces into truly remarkable environments.

At ChengYi Interior, our guiding vision is encapsulated in the principle of sincerity: 诚意做人,诚心做事 (Be sincere in your actions). What are 3 things new homeowners should prepare before starting their renovations?
  1. Understand your lifestyle

It's essential to design a space that aligns with your daily routines and preferences. At ChengYi Interior, we prioritize understanding your lifestyle to create functional and personalized designs. For instance, a double sink can streamline a busy couple's morning routine. Our detailed 3D walkthroughs explain our design process, ensuring your needs and preferences are at the forefront of every decision.

  1. Set a realistic budget

Knowing how much you're comfortable investing is crucial. We emphasize staying within your means and making wise investment decisions. Clients appreciate our honesty in guiding them towards feasible budgets and avoiding unnecessary expenses.

  1. Manage your expectations and the timeline

Realistic timelines are vital for a successful renovation. We're upfront about expected durations and provide honest guidance when deadlines are unrealistic. Our clients are often surprised by our honesty, expressing gratitude for our accurate assessments. Owners who consider various options often return to us, appreciating our reputation for honest assessments.

What were your favourite residential projects to date, and why?

When it comes to residential projects, each has its own unique story. But if I had to pick a personal favourite, it would be our minimalist wabi-sabi-inspired 4-room BTO project. This project truly showcases the potential of transforming the most common property type in Singapore into something open and expansive.

What makes this project special is that it allowed our interior designers to explore a multitude of possibilities and let their creativity run wild. The homeowners gave us complete autonomy in crafting the space while also incorporating their lifestyles and preferences.

When do you typically recommend Sol Luminaire lights, and what benefits do you see in the luminaires?

We recommend Sol Luminaire lights to most of our clients. Their luminaires not only enhance the visual appeal of any space but also offer numerous benefits beyond just design and aesthetics. What sets Sol Luminaire apart is its commitment to innovation and quality.

Their lights are crafted with precision and attention to detail, resulting in products that not only look great but also perform exceptionally well. But the benefits extend beyond the products themselves; it's also about the people behind the company. Believing in their vision and mission goes a long way in ensuring that their luminaires not only meet but exceed expectations.

How do you envision the future of home interiors in Singapore evolving in the next few years?

We're excited about the rise of biophilic design, which integrates natural elements into interior spaces—a trend we'll be exploring further in our upcoming blog post. Additionally, smart home integration is expected to increase, offering enhanced efficiency and convenience for homeowners.

There will also be a growing demand for personalised spaces, reflecting a desire for unique and tailored solutions. As attitudes toward DIY projects and professional assistance shift, we're prepared to offer our expertise in navigating the renovation process efficiently.
