The journey began seven years ago when the Gypsum was first released with the Thea Trimless luminaire as a test product designed to gauge local interest in minimalist, recessed lighting. We sought to offer an option to elevate everyday spaces while meeting the needs of compact homes in Singapore, where every inch matters. The Gypsum Thea’s sleek, unobtrusive design made it an instant success, celebrated for its ability to blend seamlessly into any ceiling and give interiors a clean, sophisticated look while brightening them up effectively.
This initial product laid the foundation for what would become the Gypsum series as it became clear that Singaporean homeowners appreciated lighting that brought beauty and utility in equal measure. This was the start of a line that would continue evolving while staying true to its minimalist roots.
Following the success of the Thea, the Gypsum family expanded to include the popular Halo and Voli luminaires. Each addition brought a new layer of versatility and aesthetic value to the series, catering to a broader array of tastes and interior styles. The Halo Gypsum brings a soft, ambient “halo” effect and a flushed aesthetic with its submergence in ceilings, offering a unique interplay of light and shadow that elevated any space.
Meanwhile, the Voli Gypsum built on the series’ core principles but added a touch of refinement, offering homeowners an elegant yet adaptable option, effortlessly enhancing minimalist decor. The Voli’s dim-to-warm function also gives homeowners the flexibility and choice to create a warmer, cosier ambience in their living spaces.
In 2022, we added the Gypsum Boba to the lineup, reimagining a beloved nostalgic design with modern minimalism. Inspired by the playful “boob lamp” designs of the 1970s, the Gypsum Boba retains a whimsical shape but with a contemporary twist. Its rounded, diffused bulb adds personality to any space, and when combined with the Gypsum kit, doubles the softness of interior walls or ceilings. This design has been especially popular with younger homeowners and those who embrace creative self-expression through interior design.
The following year, we introduced the transformative Ripple Gypsum in our catalogue, bringing back a forgotten technique and decorative element while keeping things accessible for homeowners who desire a unique look on their ceilings without breaking the bank. Its undulating silhouette was inspired largely by handcrafted ornamental and gypsum ceilings in the 19th century alongside the charm that Victorian plaster gives to ceiling designs.
To let the Ripple Gypsum truly shine, we paired it with the Isa V3 and Isa V3 Mini luminaires that bear a minute diameter of only 62mm. The Isa series of lamps also bear our signature dim-to-warm function and an adjustable beam for added versatility, making this pairing a perfect match of form and function.
